Www.greentheworld.com is a website dedicated to finding environmentally friendly answers to environmental problems or questions that are being asked in our society on a daily basis. Alternative energy answers are can come in a variety of ways, but they seek to define who you are depending upon the way in which you are given the solution, i.e., non-coal, non-natural gas, non-nuclear, non-crude oil. Is wind and solar energy the only alternative energies today or can we add to that hydro-electric power to the definition?
In the days and weeks to come Green The World will be adding additional information and helping to shape future discussions as to the real meaning of "Green".
The National Energy Technology Laboratory has a Carbon Capture Sequestration Program whose purpose is to help develop technologies to capture, separate, and store carbon dioxide (CO2) in order to reduce green-house gas emissions in the United States, Canada, Mexico and eventually the entire world without adversely influencing energy use or hindering United States or world economic growth. Carbon capture sequestration technologies capture and store CO2 (carbon dioxide) that would otherwise reside in the atmosphere for long periods of time according to the latest scientific research.
The National Energy Technology Laboratory has discovered that worldwide CO2 emissions from human being activity has increased from being at an insignificant level 200 years ago to yearly CO2 emissions of more than 33 billion tons (2000 pounds x 33,000,000,000) today. The United States Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicts that without action steps to reduce CO2 emissions the United States will emit approximately 7,550,000,000 tons of CO2 per year by 2030, which would be an increase from 2005 emission levels by more than 14 percent.
The National Energy Technology Laboratory's Carbon Capture Sequestration Program is a major contributor to the President's goal of developing technologies to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the goal of Greening the World. It is this organizations vision to have a technology portfolio of safe, cost-effective, commercial-scale greenhouse gas capture, storage, and mitigation technologies that are available for commercial deployment beginning in 2020 which will GREEN THE WORLD.
Copenhagen CO2 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Conference
United Kingdom Point of View
Prime Minster Gordon Brown
"China and America to blame for Copenhagen failure".
The Prime Minister of Great Britain call the Copenhagen Conference for the worldwide reduction of carbon emissions, greenhouse gas and global warming a "flawed" and "chaotic" summit process and he demanded that it be overhauled.
Prime Minster Brown is not happy with the way the conference was run, angry at its failure to produce substance and told the world in his news conference that never again could "a handful of nations" hold the rest of the world "to ransom."
Prime Minister Brown spent a large amount of time in the process of the conference, but he admitted that the results were far from what had been hoped for after years of lobbying for the reduction of greenhouse gases. He said the European Union was prepared cut greenhouse emissions by up 30 per cent, but others needed to follow their lead, which were not forthcoming.
Prime Minister Brown said: "What we need is not just one part of the world going to higher ranges of ambitions, we need the other parts of the world as well."
"If America and China were able to show that they were doing more, and I believe that they could, then all countries - Australia, Brazil, Japan, Korea - all these countries that have got ranges would be prepared to go to their highest level of ambition."
The Copenhagen carbon reduction greenhouse gas talks went all through the night on its last night only to end with a tentative agreement between the participating countries. More than 190 countries put their signatures on an accord which simply said that the average world temperature rises should not exceed 2º Celcius (35.6º Fahrenheit), but did so without commitments to cut emissions to achieve the temperature number.
